In 2020, Nicholas J. R. White and artist Garry Fabian Miller began to collaborate on ‘Crucible’, the name given to the small circle of Dartmoor that has been the site of Fabian Miller’s seen and imagined pictures for the last three decades. As part of this project, White walked the paths of the Crucible, between ancient barrows and burial cairns, recording the landscape across seasons and time. White’s contributions to the Crucible project are taken from a wider selection of photographs, made in the final two years of his time living on Dartmoor, the place he called home for 33 years. In late 2023, White relocated his home and studio to the Inner Isles of Scotland.
